Five children have been found in an abandoned house without running water, heat, or any indication that they are alive in York County, PA.
The children — ranging in age from 2 to 13 — lack birth certificates, immunization records or school records.
“You always have the occasion when people are living in poor conditions, but this was extreme,” the detective who found the children said. “They’re going to have to be assimilated into what’s not considered normal for them.”
The parents responsible have been charged and held with five felony counts of child endangerment and are awaiting a court appearance Friday.
Ronald Gross, the mother’s attorney said, “She acknowledges that she should have done more for the children, but in no way were they in danger…”.
“[The parents] did not engage in many community-based activities and led a very private life.”
Bowers, the mother, gave birth to her sixth child in prison on Monday.
