When you are hired to sing the country’s national anthem, it’s nice to know the words.
It was hard to notice, but during the Super Bowl the strung out Christina Aguilera forgot some of the lyrics to the National Anthem.
In fact, more people are talking about that instead of the Green Bay Packers victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25.
Instead of singing “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming…”, she sang “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming”, which is a repeat of the earlier lyric, “What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming.”
During the video, you can actually see one of the players on Green Bay’s side look around to see if anyone else noticed.
And, just what are ramparts anyway?
A rampart is a type of defensive wall used in the Battle of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812 in Baltimore.
Oh, wouldn’t have guessed, you would have thought it was a skateboard ramp or something.
And, if you polled a majority of Americans, most would probably not know the correct lyrics anyway.
It’s just one of those things, and at least we KNOW she was singing it live, and it wasn’t pre-recorded. And, if that was botched, then all bets are off.
Or, maybe we just don’t care about ramparts nowadays in our age of cell phones and security systems.
Now to be fair, and you have to be brutally honest, how many of you wouldn’t have noticed she forgot the lyrics?
