Evacuation Orders From U.S. Navy Skipper to Families In Japan

At the request of the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Navy has begun to evacuate citizens in Japan.

Captain Garner speaks to Navy families in Japan about evacuation orders.

The order of those to be evacuated voluntarily is women and children first, then non-essential personnel, then essential personnel.

Navy helicopters will be evacuating citizens to Korea and other points away from areas that have high levels of radioactivity.

Roughly 10,000 family members per day will be evacuated aboard Navy aircraft as well as chartered flights from American Airlines and United Airlines.

Navy personnel and family members are urged not to panic and to remain calm.

Essential Supplies for 3-5 days should be taken such as diapers, clothes, food.

The Navy is evacuating citizens due to uncertainty over what the damaged nuclear reactors might do and there are still lots of questions remaining.

At the end of the announcement, the skipper urges Navy personnel and family to remain calm, don’t panic.

He said that afterward the U.S. and Japan will emerge as a stronger alliance, and said “God Bless America” to close his remarks.
