White House officials now are doubling back on their statements and say that in the above photo officials including the President were not watching the mission to kill Osama bin Laden unfold.
The Los Angeles Times is reporting that top level officials in the CIA and in the Obama administration including the President himself watched live video of the raid on Osama bin Laden’s hiding place in Pakistan, possibly even witnessing the moment bin Laden was shot after attempting to fight back as a special ops NAVY seal team stormed his compound, shooting him twice before killing him.
“We have rid the world of the most infamous terrorist of our time,” CIA Director Leon Panetta said in a statement Monday. “We gave President Obama and his team accurate, relevant, timely intelligence — providing the information and insight they needed at key points as this mission developed.”
“It was probably one of the most anxiety-filled periods of time, I think, in the lives of the people who were assembled here yesterday,” counter-terrorism chief John Brennan said. “The minutes passed like days, and the president was very concerned about the security of our personnel. That was what was on his mind throughout.”
Officials at the White House declined to comment whether they had access to live video or audio of the event as the attack was carried out.
