A 22 year old marine reservist named Yonathan Melaku has been linked to a slew of shootings at military targets based on forensic evidence after he was found in Arlington National Cemetery with a backpack containing suspicious materials.
In a huge breakthrough, police have linked him with forensic evidence to shootings at military targets in the D.C. metro area last fall including a Marine Corps recruiting station where windows at both facilities were shot and broken.

According to a Marines Lance corporal, Melaku is Muslim and was born in Ethiopa but is now a naturalized U.S. citizen. He enlisted in 2007 and was waiting to deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan but was never sent.
Authorities found a suspicious notebook in his possession containing phrases like “Al Qaeda,” “Taliban rule” and “defeated coalition forces” but it is not clear if Melaku wrote those words.
Melaku is being held without bond for grand larceny related to vehicle break ins in the area, giving investigators time to investigate his link with the shootings.
