Microsoft has patented a feature for use in mobile phones that will allow drivers or pedestrians to avoid “unsafe neighborhood or being in an open area that is subject to harsh temperatures….” on their route.

The technology uses the latest crime statistics and weather data when routing someone to their destination.

Microsoft has declined to comment on the new technology.

The patent granted earlier this week also can navigate a user through an area where advertising is prominent.
