Congressman kicked off House floor for wearing hoodie in honor of Trayvon Martin

Not hats are allowed to be worn on the chamber floor according to House Rule 15

Democratic Senator Bobby Rush violated decorum rules in the House of Representatives after putting on a hoodie and sunglasses after he said:

“Racial profiling has to stop, Mr. Speaker. Just because someone wears a hoodie does not make them a hoodlum…”

The speaker administering the morning session, a visibly angry Rep. Gregg Harper, R-Miss, fired back:

“The member will suspend…The member is no longer recognized. The chair will ask the sergeant-at-arms to enforce the rules on decorum.”

Rep. Harper pounded his gavel as Rush shouted bible passages over the commotion in the chamber as he was escorted from the floor by the sergeant at arms.

The representative’s actions violated House Rule 15 against wearing hats while on the floor.
