Actor dead at 87 who played Barnabas Collins in Dark Shadows
Actor Jonathan Frid died Friday in Ontario from natural causes

He played the 200 year old vampire in the 1960′s soap opera “Dark Shadows”, one of the most iconic characters in television history.
Johnny Depp studied Frid’s character meticulously and will star in a movie version of the serial to be released May 11 on the big screen.
In “Dark Shadows”, which ran from 1966-71, Frid portryaed the vampire Barnabas who mourned the loss of his true love and protected his family’s Collinwood mansion from monsters all the while trying to restrain himself from biting people’s necks.
Frid acted in a cameo role for the film, his first acting role since 1974′s “Seizure” (Olive Stone’s feature-directing debut).
Frid appeared at countless “Dark Shadows” conventions after his retirement. The conventions have grown in popularity over recent years as new and old fans rediscover the series.
