Christian protesters attacked by crowd at Muslim Festival in Dearborn

Chief of police blames group for attacks

A group called The United West carrying pro-Christian signs at a 2012 Arab International Festival in Dearborn Michigan was attacked by festival goers with bottles and rocks.

One man shouted obsecenties and told one of the group’s members to “go home” while others threw milk crates, bottles, rocks, and other items.

Young children hurl obscenities at the group while adults stand by as the assault continues.

Police officers can be seen in the video and don’t make any arrests.

An officer tells the group it “isn’t their call” to be there.

Deputy Chief Jaafar informed the group they were at fault:

“It’s not your call. We’ve been very gentle and very, very respectful to you and you are jeopardizing public safety. And you need to understand it’s gone overboard. We don’t have the coverage to protect you and if we have two officers who can protect you it would work great but it’s impossible to do so. You’re attracting a crowd and you’re affecting public safety, you need to understand that,” he said.

Dearborn Michigan is home to the largest mosque in North America with 41.7% of the population of Arab descent.
