Repairs almost break Chesapeake Bay Bridge, huge backups

  • Westbound Route 50 is now open following inspection. Traffic delays on the Eastern shore should ease up.

Workers noticed unusual vertical movement of the bridge during overnight repairs. An inspection team is at the bridge now trying to determine what caused the movement.

There are significant delays leaving the eastern shore and Kent Island on US 50 westbound from just after the US 301 merge in Queenstown.

Great, thanks a lot MTA. You just had to go and mess with it. There are going to be lots of angry motorists today.

Your only alternative is to sit in the two way traffic backup or take 301 north and around the bay.

Would you prefer they never maintain or repair the bridge?
Maybe the traffic delays after a section of bridge falls into the bay wouldn’t be nearly as bad as the delays today.
As someone who crosses the bridge daily, and who was delayed 1.5 hours today, I’m glad they maintain, inspect and repair both spans on a regular basis.

Well Johta, it did almost fall into the bay because of repairs. The company the state hired to work on the bridge has screwed up numerous times.

All to keep some paint chips out of the water, WOW
