You may have had it all wrong when it comes to swimming in pools.

First, you need to know that the chlorine in a pool does not turn your hair green. The green color you sometimes see in a pool can come from copper pipes, so don’t blame the chlorine.

Chlorine is actually a good thing in a pool. It helps prevent bacteria from building up in the pool and keeps it clean.

Ever wander why your eyes are red from swimming in a pool? Nope, not just the chlorine. Your eyes hurt due to the chlorine reacting chemically with urine and other things that wash off of people in the pool.

So how do you know it is safe to swim in a pool then? If you look into the pool and can see the bottom clearly and the sides are free of algae, it’s probably safe to dive in, but make sure to get a pool professional to come out once a year and give it a look over.

Have a safe and cool summer from NEXTGEN FM.
