A black bear has been spotted wandering through residential areas of Ellicott City and Columbia in Howard County. Officials say the bear most likely wandered away from its home in Western Maryland.
The officials say that the bears leave home after maturing and can wander up to 100 miles from where they were born. Many times they just move on. Officials say they have no plans to tranquilize the bear just yet; a bear was tranquilized in Arbutus in 2008 and removed.
Residents must know that the bears run away when seeing humans, DNR officials said.
